Also known as Urothelial carcinoma (previously referred to as transitional cell carcinoma-TCC), it arises from the lining of the urinary bladder.
Symptoms:
The most usual presentation is blood in the urine. Other symptoms include increased urinary frequency, urgency or pain during urination. In advanced disease, there can be lower tummy pain or bony pain, swelling in the legs or flank pain.
Diagnosis:
The best modality to establish a diagnosis is an examination using a cystoscope, scans and biopsy. A cystoscope is a thin tube that carries a light and a camera. It is passed through the urethra into the bladder. Cystoscopy allows direct visual inspection of the entire bladder, and a biopsy can be done at the same time. Ultrasound of the tummy, CT Scan and PET CT scan can be used for diagnosis depending upon the situation.
Treatment:
For the treatment purpose Bladder cancers are divided into Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (NMIBC) and Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancers (MIBC).
